#TSEDramaReview! Spoiler alert!
So let's talk about Ishqiya, a Pakistani drama that aired its concluding (double-episode) episode on the 10th of August, 2020. Although we had doubts about it in the beginning, the last episode was really well presented. From going full-circle in addressing all that needed to be highlighted, the ending was truly satisfying.
Firstly. Hamza & Hamna though both deserving of the dangerous repercussions accepted their follies and mistakes yet, there was one thing that set them apart. Having gone through the sequence of events Hamna finally learnt that she will have to be patient in working towards redemption while Hamza stayed stuck in the 'fight for love' dilemma. There is a scene in this episode that really resonated with us and that was when Hamza's friend tells him to show restraint and questions his irrational attitude when he says, why do always have to bring in a fight? Why do you always have to talk about a fight?
Secondly. We love the development of Rumi's character and how she has come full circle. Unlike most Pakistani dramas that show docile often forgiving women who merely take back their husbands for the sake of appearances, Rumi has done justice to the story and left a relationship which is bound to be toxic for her.
Thirdly. Although many viewers believe that Hamza should have gotten a happy ending (something that would have been sweeter), we felt it was necessary to highlight that not everyone gets a happily ever after in real life and that some mistakes should lead to punishment. In this case, we feel proud of the development in familial roles where Hamza's parents, especially his mother, chooses to fight for the rights of her daughter-in-law rather than support the son despite his follies.
Fourthly. For all those questioning why Hamna got be happy and not Hamza, should look at it this way... she had managed to channel her inner warrior and tell the truth when Hamza did not. He was more than willing to keep the truth from Rumi for fear that she would leave but Hamna eventually confided in Azeem knowing full well that she could lose everything. Following which, she had to face the disappointment and anger from her loved ones which she accepted fully whereas Hamza still did not understand.
Lastly. We feel very strongly about the end to this mostly cliche plot, and that Ramsha Khan, Hania Amir, Gohar Rasheed, Feroze Khan and others included in the cast have done justice to their characters, and that the conclusion of the plot with its much-needed twist has not failed to impress us. So as per unpopular opinion we loved the end! and would hope that more dramas in the future could leave such an impact on us.

Hi Sanniah, This review is well written. I enjoyed reading your opinion.
ReplyDeleteI would request you to talk about this idea of not having the confidence to talk about our mistakes, relationships, problems with our parents, family and partners. As you must have seen that many of our dramas like TARAP, MAIN NA JANOO, ISHQIYA, DEEWANGI etc etc show characters (female specifically) who went through something unpleaseant in their past but then they hide it and suffer because of it.
Dear Sehrish,
DeleteWe are glad that you have appreciated our efforts to try and initiate a debate about issues most often brushed under the carpet! In shaa Allah we will talk about the concern you have highlighted, in one of our future posts.
Regards,
Team TSE!
I ve not seen this drama. Read your views. I think media has achieved its goal once again to destroy our family values.when you keep on showing something it becomes a routine something normal. You dont feel bad about it.
