TSE’s Movie in Review: What's Love Got to Do with It?

©The Sanniah Experience! (TSE) Exploring marriages from interracial to interfaith in the rom-com diaspora of the modern-day British-Pakistani identity. Jemima Khan’s massively promoted 2022 British rom-com directed by Shekhar Kapur, What’s Love Got to Do it? stars Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Sajal Aly, and many others with a surprise cameo of Pakistan’s beloved musical genius, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Dealing with issues of arranged marriage in the modern age coining the term ‘Love Contractually’, the movie has a promising start and a hopeful future preaching to the youth to stop pretending in unhappy or ‘insisted marriages’ as the male lead portrayed by Shazad Latif says to his parents. On the surface, the film deals with protagonist Kazim Khan’s journey from deciding to look for a bride to actually marrying a young Pakistani Muslim girl with whom he shares a sense of compatibility. ©The Sanniah Experience! 'Ishqiya': Disappointing or Revolutionary?

#TSEDramaReview! Spoiler alert!   So let's talk about Ishqiya, a Pakistani drama that aired its concluding (double-episode) episode on the 10th of August, 2020. Although we had doubts about it in the beginning, the last episode was really well presented. From going full-circle in addressing all that needed to be highlighted, the ending was truly satisfying. Firstly. Hamza & Hamna though both deserving of the dangerous repercussions accepted their follies and mistakes yet, there was one thing that set them apart. Having gone through the sequence of events Hamna finally learnt that she will have to be patient in working towards redemption while Hamza stayed stuck in the 'fight for love' dilemma. There is a scene in this episode that really resonated with us and that was when Hamza's friend tells him to show restraint and questions his irrational attitude when he says, why do always have to bring in a fight? Why do you always have to talk about a fight? Secondly. We ...

#BlackLivesMatter, Rowling & Global Perspective

Perfectly put by J K Rowling! The British author, most renowned for the enchanting Harry Potter series, believes that the world needs to change. In a tweet on her official Twitter account, Rowling wrote, "All I know is that the world has to change. Power structures have to change. White people have to change. #BlackLivesMatter." ... and all we can add to this is that, #AllLivesMatter. Be kind to one another because one good deed goes a long way. . . . Where are we headed?: Need for #BlackoutDay & Extra-marital affairs

So, 2020 is really turning out to be the worst year ever. Considering the global community is tackling a pandemic, while individual countries are facing multiple issues associated with the pandemic and otherwise. As the black community tries to regain its collective and individual power from the #WhiteMan, across United States, we are reminded of the beauty behind Islam which advocates that no man is superior to another on the basis of colour, and that killing all of humanity. Simultaneously, Pakistan is going through its own series of troubles... from the elite putting their dirty laundry on display for the world, to financial troubles, we cannot help but think that two wrongs can never make a right! If a married man cheats on his wife, with another woman, he is equally responsible for the affair and must be dealt with accordingly. In our opinion, the following arguments need to be considered, before passing any judgement or picking any side: 1. The man/woman who cheats is wrong and m...

A Day in the life: Healthy Meal ✅

Healthy Meal ✅ As we continue to practice social distancing and the dictates of health and safety, as specified by the World Health Organization (WHO). Remember that we must also give preference to maintaining a healthy immune system. Since we can't do that by coming into contact with people and things unnecessarily, we can always focus on a healthier diet and habits.  So, here's an almost-June-resolution to transitioning from all I want to eat, to healthier food and life choices! Another fun way to boost ones immunity is to focus on the positive things happening around us, to keep busy, maybe even help to clean the house if you don't do so otherwise. It is a known fact that optimistic thinking helps the body function better.  Happy transitioning to you all! 😊 . . . #Throwback: A Day in the life, pre-COVID

A day in the life pre-COVID, is a lesson on its own, a reminder of how ungrateful mankind can be. We fail to cherish things, people and experiences as we live them yet, reminisce on the beauty of them when we cannot have them any longer. As we learn to combat COVID-19 as a global community, how about we also learn to rework our priorities in ways that benefit not only our physical but also our mental and emotional health? Let's vow to be kinder to each other, more present in compoany of others and actively engaging in our relationships... and just maybe, we can step positively into the world post-Coronavirus. #LetsKeepTheHopeAlive! . . . With or Without Me

© The Sanniah Experience! (TSE) By Sanniah Hassan  With or without me, You should be happy, that’s What my parents always taught me. I recalled their words as I tried to Hold my tears at bay. Today I would leave it all behind. As I stepped into another life, A new family I would leave behind my past, My web, my nest. I would be leaving behind the people I loved the most To start something new, Another family. I was wearing my heart on my sleeve, Though reluctantly, I was moving on. My heart felt like it would explode any minute, It was as if a thousand butterflies were fluttering within me, What could I call this feeling of the in-between? Being good at playing with words was of no use at all today. What can a girl do as she leaves her memories behind? What does she do, when faced with this unwelcomed change? I tried to express myself, But I found it futile. From this moment on, I would not be me, but we. I was movin...

Lady Lazarus!

© The Sanniah Experience! (TSE) By Sanniah Hassan   You promised me a forever A happily ever after, How crazy was I? To think you could ever tell me the truth. You ruined me for me, And for the world, I desired for myself You made me think all were Just the same, that all were you. How selfish a creature you were - But my dear I know what I’m worth, And I know that I deserve much better Then whatever  you   had to offer. So adieu amigo! I hope to Never see your  face again. I hope to soar like a bird in flight Who conquers all her hearts’ Desires… what a small word - Insignificant to some, But a world in itself for my perception. I thank you, for letting me go and breaking me, So the man worthy of me could help in healing me Because he deserves my loving more than you ever did I thank you from the bottom of my being That you showed the other side of what The world could be - Ugly! And opened ...

Quote of the Day!

© The Sanniah Experience! (TSE) Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, is perhaps one of the most well-recognized figures in the history of mankind. Apart from being one of Rome's greatest emperors who have to their credit the safe-keeping of the rich empire from Parthians and Germans , Aurelius is also considered to be one of the most renowned intellectual personalities.  Aurelius' intellectual endeavors were spearheaded by his interest in Stoicism   –  the philosophy that focuses on fate, reason & self-restraint. Moreover, Aurelius was influenced a great deal by the writings of a former slave, and Stoic philosopher, Epictetus.  “Corrupt people unite against one man and spare no effort to ridicule him. Blackmail him and attempt to assassinate his character, blindly follow that one man! ~  Marcus Aurelius Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or contact us via:  Email: thesanniahexperience@gmail.com  Facebook: @Rand...

What's in a Colour?

© The Sanniah Experience! (TSE) By Sanniah Hassan What’s in a colour? It’s just but that Why do people wish, To be white Not black? Why do some people Desire for things Not theirs Like being white, While being Black by birth Or even in rare cases -  Black when White Why are we so conscious of colour? When in our subconscious We do know  That it is anything but Colour just makes us different It doesn’t define us Doesn’t make us who we are Then why are people so conscious of colour When it matters not at large! All my life I’ve been told That I’m better And why might you ask? ‘cause I’m fairer by skin Yet I choose to believe as some few people Around the world Colour is not who I am And it does not make me, me It is just a means To recognise  me In a room full of those just like me Then why is it that people Wish to be of a colour And not be happy with What they are There ...
